Remote unlocknot supported by design

Kubu is a British smart-security system that sits inside the multi-point lock of a door or window and, unlike a generic contact sensor, can tell you whether the lock is actually engaged — not just whether the door is closed.

How it works day to day

The sensor talks to a small hub on the home Wi-Fi, and the hub talks to a mobile app. The user is notified when the door is opened, unlocked or left unsecured — with an optional geofence trigger for the moment you leave the driveway.

The deliberate omission: remote unlock

Kubu specifically does not allow the door to be unlocked remotely from the app. That is a security decision, not an oversight: the lock cannot be operated through the cloud, so a compromised phone does not compromise the door.

Compatibility with aluminium doors

Kubu only works with locks marked „Works with Kubu”. If smart integration matters, it is a detail to confirm at the point the doors or windows are ordered — not something to bolt on afterwards.

Editor's note. 5EC can supply new aluminium doors with Kubu-compatible locks fitted at the factory, which is considerably tidier than a retrofit later.

For readers researching options locally, 5EC's front doors and the aluminium systems 5EC works with are both worth reviewing — both are handled by 5EC, a Stevenage-based authorised supplier working across Hertfordshire.

Detailed technical documentation is available on Kubu's product information.
