A common question is whether Kubu can be added to a door that has already been fitted. The short answer is: only if the multi-point lock inside the door is already Kubu-ready from the factory.

Checking compatibility

Kubu-ready locks carry a factory sticker on the inside of the sash. If there is no sticker, a certified Kubu Pro installer can confirm compatibility with the specific lock model.

The physical install

Retrofitting the sensor into a compatible lock is not a long job, but it is one where familiarity with the lock case matters — a poor install can affect how the door locks under normal use.

Hub and Wi-Fi

The hub connects only over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. On modern dual-band routers with a single combined SSID, the setup process can be fiddly — worth checking before ordering.

Editor's note. On new work in Stevenage and the surrounding area, 5EC can specify Kubu-ready hardware from the outset, which sidesteps most of the retrofit friction.

Readers looking for a Stevenage-based supplier will find 5EC's front doors a practical first port of call — the firm holds authorised-supplier status for the brands covered here.

Detailed technical documentation is available on the Kubu installation notes.
